Making New Friends

Last year the CWC decided to host a new kind of event – a “friendraiser”. Please notice that it says friendraiser not fundraiser. We make new friends all the time through our website and our social media pages. We make new friends on hikes and at other events, but we’d never hosted an event just for the purpose of making new friends.

We held our first friendraising event in February 2019 over good pizza and better beer at Hunter’s Ale House (4855 E. Bluegrass Road, Mt. Pleasant). Despite some challenges – our original date was cancelled due to icy roads – everyone agreed that our first friendraiser was a rousing success! Seventy-five people gathered to celebrate friendship and learn more about the Chippewa Watershed Conservancy.

Some of those seventy-five people were old friends of the CWC, people who have supported us for years. We love seeing our old friends! Equally exciting was the fact that half of the people at the friendraiser were new to the CWC. They came because they were invited by old friends or they saw the event advertised on this website or our social media pages. Everyone wanted to know when we were going to do it again?

We’ve been making new friends all spring and summer at hikes and other events. Now we’ve decided that it’s time to have another friendraising event to celebrate the end of summer! Our second friendraiser of 2019 is scheduled for Thursday August 22nd from 5:30PM to 7:30PM at Hunter’s Ale House. (What can we say, we like pizza and craft beer!) The best part is the cost – only $20 gets you a pizza buffet (plus salad) and a ticket for a craft beer (or wine or other beverage).

At $20 a ticket we don’t cover our costs for this event. Thankfully five generous sponsors stepped up as sponsors. Our heartfelt thanks go out out Ann Brockman, Marilyn and Gordon Fosburg, Dyke and Phyllis Heinze, Alan and Kathy Johns, and Ginger Judge for their generous support.

If you haven’t signed up yet, click on the event on the right side of this page. We hope to see you there!
