Important Conservation Milestone Reached!

By December 7, 2017 No Comments

Thanks to a unique partnership between Chippewa Watershed Conservancy (CWC), Little Forks Conservancy and Trout Unlimited, CWC has now protected over 5,000 acres in total! The Little Forks Conservancy’s 270-acre Lane Property, located in northern Gladwin County, will become a public preserve with plans to offer a variety of passive recreational opportunities. Several conservation easements held by CWC will ensure proper stewardship of the land in perpetuity. The property protects mature forest, grassland, marshland and important frontage on the North Branch of the Cedar River – a designated cold water trout stream. Additionally, The Leon P. Martuch Chapter of Trout Unlimited will hold a riparian easement on the property to conduct critical streambank and fish habitat restoration work. “We’re extremely excited to partner with these two like-minded organizations to make George Lane’s conservation objectives come to fruition,” said CWC executive director, Jon Breithaupt.
