Conservation Internship Opportunity

The Chippewa Watershed Conservancy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit conservation organization based in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, whose mission is to protect open space and wildlife habitat. The Conservancy owns 22 nature preserves which are open to the public for passive recreation and maintains 35 conservation easements on private land to protect conservation values in its five-county service area in Central Michigan. Position Description:

  • Design, build and maintain non-motorized trail systems
  • Identify and eradicate invasive species using a variety of control methods
  • Develop marketing and outreach materials
  • Manage the Conservancy’s Business Adopt-a-Preserve program
  • Cultivate, train and manage volunteers for preserve stewardship work sessions
  • Manage social media campaigns
  • Research and lead environmental education hikes on nature preserves
  • Install wayfinding, boundary and educational signage on properties
  • Write small grants to fund specific projects
  • Represent the Conservancy at various outreach events
  • Other duties as assigned

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A passion for natural resource protection
  • Availability to work from May 2018-November 2018
  • Physical fitness to engage in sometimes challenging responsibilities
  • Reliable vehicle for transportation to and from project sites
  • An interest in a career in the environmental conservation field

Stipend and benefit information:

  • Up to $200 biweekly stipend for a minimum of 24 hours/per week
  • Reimbursement for mileage driven for internship-related activities
  • A high quality, well-rounded internship experience
