4th Thursday Fern Walk Held on a Saturday

Have you ever thought about how ferns differ from other plants? Do they have flowers? How do they reproduce? Are there guides to help identify different ferns?  Our stalwart leader, Dr. Doug Valek, answered these and many other questions about the lives of ferns. On July 12, we introduced a twist to our 4th Thursday nature walk and held it on a Saturday. Nearly two dozen participants learned about spores and fiddleheads and the reproductive cycle of the many varieties of ferns found at the Hall’s Lake Natural Area. At least 11 species of ferns have been identified here.
